First Stop St Louis – National Walking Month Route 66

During May, National Walking Month, some of my colleagues and I are virtually walking the famous Route 66 across America. We started in Chicago on the 1st May and in week 1, I am pleased to say collectively we have walked an impressive 333 miles, which sees us arrive at our first stop St Louis, Missouri. St Louis is found on the banks of the Mississippi and Missouri River, and it’s from here that renown explorers Lewis and Clark, ably guided by Sacagawea, began their westward trip in 1804. (Incidentally ‘Looking for Lewis and Clark’, by The Long Ryders is one of my favourite songs, if you don’t know it, give it a listen.)

We have walked through all seasons, including bright sunshine, gusty winds, hail and torrential rain, we have now set our sights on Kansas, the sunflower state, although most of us will know it from the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz and the famous line “Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

If you haven’t managed to get outside on a walk yet, why not try a stroll around the area you live.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to your organization, and especially to my consultant, Sulu. Thank you for your professionalism, and for Sulu’s remarkable empathy and genuine concern Thanks to her guidance, patience, and dedication, I was able to overcome the harmful habit of smoking. I feel truly fortunate to have met Sulu — she believed in me, and that belief helped me believe in myself. It is difficult to put into words the depth of my happiness and gratitude. Please, accept my heartfelt thanks and respect for helping me discover the joy of life without tobacco smoke.
